When all the GMs of the NHL meet in one place there are all sorts of wheeling and dealing going on. Whether any deal actually gets accomplished is another matter, but the NHL draft is one such instance where GMs and their entire entourage of scouts and assistants are all under one roof and in easy shouting distance. The day before and day of the draft saw a number of significant deals go down, so here is a rundown of what happened. (Only major deals and deals involving players are listed).

As we hit the NHL offseason, many teams have been making plans for fixing their rosters this summer first via the draft and then free agency. Below is a run through of the NHL teams who departed the playoffs in the first round with a list of their unrestricted free agents (UFA), restricted free agents (RFA) and their approximate cap space based on the estimated figure for next season of a $64mm maximum and $48mm minimum. Only prominent RFAs and UFAs will be listed.

I cannot remember a more disrespected and dismissed 1 seed than this year's Spurs. They have the best record out west by a wide margin. They have a nucleus that has won 4 titles. They have the 2nd best coach in the league. But they are old. They are old and they are a bit banged up. Rarely has the hands down consensus pick to win a title been a club that barely obtained the 2 seed on the last night of the season. I guess when you have Kobe, Phil and have won 2 straight, it makes sense that you'd be favored ey? Okay, now onto the Western Conference playoffs round uno..........

Finally!!! the playoffs haveeee come back to the world's most famous arena! Sorry Rock but I felt inspired by the combination of your appearance at Wrestlemania, or so I hear, and the Knicks making the playoffs for the first time in 7 years. I just felt a need to respond quickly to you people who are trying to rain on our parade........
