Whfew!!! We were one ill fated coin toss away from being 5-5 and for all intents and purposes, out of the playoff race. Thank Goodness the coin flip went the way of the G-men. Ill just post a few bullet points on the game after the jump...
5) Eli was phenomenal-He was timely and clutch but more than that, he threw some unbelievably perfect passes mainly to Mario. Eli played well in a home game November game for the first time in his career which is encouraging if nothing else. Game ball to you sir.
4) Kevin Lovin!- (a) Sorry Kevin Gilbirde!! What I have begun to realize is that the reason Brandon doesn't get more carries a game is that he gets hurt each and every game and has to sit out multiple series. This necessarily limits his carries to about 11-13 per game. Basically Brandon, nut up son. (b) Oh and Kevin Boss. I love you. That is all
3) Lawrence Tynes is a disgrace to the uniform- It kind of bothers me that he was the one who won that Green bay game and that it wasn't won on that Ahmad Bradshaw run that Devo and I agree was the greatest moment of our lives until that yellow flag came flying. Currently, he is the worst kicker in the league by far. He misses short kicks routinely and that last kick in OT gave me a mild heart attack. Please bring in somebody else.... anybody!!
2) Special Teams is a nightmare- Our special teams is terrible. Not only is Tynes horrendous on Field Goals, he is even worse on kickoffs. Those squib kicks dont have nearly enough english on them so that they might riccochet off the hands of the often stone handed upback. Instead they are picked up and returned to the 35 or 40. Also, even on the rare good kick by Tynes, the coverage was awful. Atlanta must have had average starting field position of about its own 40.
1) The defense needs better conditioning- The defense was great in the first half. It was abominable in the 2nd half. The Falcons did absolutely anything they wanted to in the 2nd half and particularly converted every single third and long it faced in the entire half. Maybe the guys get gassed or maybe there are more injuries than the coaching staff and players are letting on. Either way, the defense has to get wayyyyyy better if it wants to beat Philly and Dallas in mid December. Unfortunately, Bill Sheridan is the man running said defense. On the plus side, Denver is awful so it might not cost us this Thursday night; but predictions for Turkey day are coming soon have no fear SUS diehards!! Though if a team is poorly conditioned, I can't imagine the thin air of Denver will be helpful.....
