"I'm proud to announce I am signing up with Straight Up Sports. "
I'll keep this brief and to the point. CBS royally and massively screwed the pooch last night in terms of its coverage of the 2nd batch of Sweet 16 games last night....
So a couple Sundays ago, I decided to take some initiative and comment on the inactivity of the Steelers in the midst of a swirling controversy surrounding Benji Roethlisberger and the jackass AFC North teams getting better. The following day, they respond by signing 4 people and bringing back another old dog a week later
In most cases, that’s an offseason right there and might as well be in this instance. In typical Steeler fashion, the FO went about adding complimentary veteran players as well as depth to the various positions. What this more or less means is that once again the Steelers are going into the draft without leaving any holes. Thus, allowing the youth to rot on the bench learn the system and the team to go the BPA route once again. Thought’s on the moves after the jump.
I must preface my post by admitting that this NCAA tournament has been incredible so far. There have been a myriad of huge upsets, some great teams flexing their muscles, and most importantly, White Girl's team is very much still alive. However, I do have some beef with this year's tourney and the tourney in general which I will share with yall now ya hearr?
10) Isiah Thomas- No,No, No. Not THAAAAT Isiah Thomas. There is this very solid guard on the University of Washington's sweet 16 bound squad. Every time I hear him referenced, I cringe because I obviously think of the more famous, or should I say infamous, version of the man. At least we have a 90 year old and bad talent evaluator running the show now??
In a SUS exclusive, it has been uncovered that Woody Johnson's outrage and confusion was not over the fact that the league conducted a secret coin toss which was won by the co-tenant New York Giants thereby granting it and not Johnson's Jets the first game in the new stadium. Rather, Woody has admitted that he simply has never seen a quarter and does not know what it is. Can't people not comment about this situation. Apparently, not. Below is a tasty morsel served up by Gary Myers of the NY Daily News. Personally, this debate is stupid and changes every year. With yet another allegation, more and more are going to talk about the nightmare that is Ben Roethlisberger and that's a given. But the debate over Eli/Ben/Philbo Rivers shouldn't be decide now, which our friend Gary clearly does here.
With the recent news that Mets super-athlete and overrated MLB player Jose Reyes is going to be out anwyhere from 2-8 weeks with an over-active Thyroid coupled with the fact that Beltran will be out till at least May, all I can say is...
The NHL Trade Deadline, or Christmas #1 for hockey fans, (Christmas #2 being first day of free agency) has come and gone with another round of trades that were surprising, one sided and miffing. This was a relatively quiet year, mostly because so many teams are within reach of the playoffs that it was a buyer’s market with few sellers. Even though it had more trades than any other deadline, there were no major transactions unlike past years, making many consider this deadline to be disappointing.
What an awesome beginning to the 2010 Offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Let’s take a quick look at what’s been going on.
1)Sign Casey Hampton to a 3 yr deal worth 21 million
2)Franchise KICKER Jeff Reed
3)Negotiations with Ryan Clark failing.
4)Ravens trade for Anquan Boldin; sign Donte Stallworth
5)Bengals sign Matt Jones / interested in TO / Brandon Marshall
6)Browns resign Josh Cribbs.
7)Still nothing on Limas Sweed and his status for next season.
8)Free agency visits from Bodden, Arnaz Battle
9)Ben Roethlisberger AGAIN accused of sexual and drunken douchebaggery
So let’s take stock here. The reason why the Steelers missed the playoffs was the fact that they choked it away in their division. 4 losses to the other 3 teams including the disaster @ Cleveland. All of these teams are on track at improving at least on paper. The Steelers? Just business as usual.
I was kind of hoping for Peppers or Dansby but Antrelle and Kenny should be a nice safety tandem for years to come pending a smooth recovery by Kenny from microfracture surgery (please nfl G-ds!).
